Island House

Island House is a psychosocial rehabilitation program for adults with mental illness. Island House offers a constructive day program for community members who might otherwise lead lonely lives that can compound their struggles with mental illness. The members are trained to carry out all aspects of program business and participate in it while learning new daily living, working and social skills. This program is designed to help these folks take the next step in their recovery.

Suicide Prevention Skills Training – QPR

Mental Health America Beaufort / Jasper is a certified trainer in the Question Persuade and Refer program which has been born out as a Best Practice in suicide prevention by the American Association of Suicidology.  This program is offered for free to individuals or groups. Consultation

Individuals, business or community organizations may call MHABJ for information or referrals on any issue related mental health. A South Carolina Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) responds to each and every call. Services and informational brochures are always free. Speaker’s Bureau

MHABJ provides opportunities for community education on topics related to mental health and wellness as well as mental illness for the professional and/or lay person. Staff are available to speak at local public civic, practice or church groups on topics ranging from Attention Deficit Disorder to Alzheimer’s Disease. MHABJ may also sponsor speakers for community forums. Ongoing educational forums help enlighten the community as well as combat stigma related to mental illness. Canal Apartments

MHABJ owns and operates 20 apartments for adults with mental illness who might otherwise be unable to participate in productive community living. This independent licensing program is further supported by MHABJ with psychoeducational groups and facilitation of tenant association meetings.

I.C. Hope “Don’t Duck Mental Health” Program

MHABJ is a trained provider of the award winning I.C. Hope educational program for children. This program is designed to promote the mental health and wellness of children by teaching positive coping skills using an innovative curriculum of interactive story-telling and discussion. Human Service Professional Training Program

MHABJ staff are trained educators and licensed mental health professionals. The HSPT program is designed to allow other critical human service agencies to avail themselves of our expertise at no cost. Recent trainings have included: SC Vocational Rehabilitation, Costal Empire Community Mental Health, Citizens Opposed to Domestic Violence and many more. Emergency Food Pantry

Residents of Hilton Head Island with mental health disorders are eligible to receive canned, fresh and/or frozen foods from the pantry that is managed by members of our Island House program.

Support Groups: Peer Run

Depression & Bipolar Support Alliance Group:

For adults and adolescents accompanied by an adult. This group meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month from 7:00pm to 8:30pm.
